ABBA - Chiquitita

It's Tuesday, and I am talking about the super Swedish band ABBA. My Dad could make me laugh so hard sometimes that I would cry. I miss his bizarre sense of humor. Today's Song of the Day is #29 stiff from the popular group ABBA. My parents loved ABBA, and it was one of the few things they agreed on. I am also a huge fan of ABBA; I have all of their albums, along with 2021's Voyage. There is one song I can't listen to anymore without crying (in laughter). That song is Chiquitita. I can't remember the first time my Dad started singing his version of this classic, but I am so glad he did. At the song's start, my dad had all the facial expressions down. He started soft with the track, but it was Big Mike Time when the chorus kicked in. I can remember watching him shift from a serious singer to a lunatic screaming Chiquitita at the top of his lungs. This man transformed into something that you could not turn away from. I wish I had a video of this, but this was the late '90s, and video cameras in our pockets were not a thing.

This was never one of my favorite ABBA songs, but my dad changed everything. The song was a stiff on the charts, dying out at only #29 on the Hot 100, but it is one of the band's best-known songs. I miss my Dad. I miss our chatting about music. He never had the passion for music that I do, but he always had music on, and I thank him for that. Thanks for turning me on to ABBA. Thanks for giving me something you, Mom, and I could share.

I miss you.
